The study “Analysis and Development of HBIM integration in GIS for the creation of a tourism planning protocol for the cultural heritage of a destination” carried out by the PEGASO center of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), in which Witeklab participated, has been awarded the Media Impact of Research Award in the third edition of the UPV Research Awards, with the award going to its main researchers, doctors Concepción López González and Mª José Viñals Blasco.
This study contemplated the development of an innovative solution to sustainably manage the tourist flow in heritage environments, in order to preserve cultural heritage and guarantee the safety and comfort of visitors through a tourism planning system based on accurate data.
The project focused on the quantitative analysis of visitor flows around emblematic buildings, using moving image sensors to detect pedestrians without storing images. For this purpose, the CPF-SENSOR sensor (model WTK10070) from Witeklab, an intelligent camera capable of distinguishing people in motion and carrying out a real-time count of the influx of visitors in a given area. The use of Witeklab sensors made it possible to identify behavioral patterns and detect peaks of influx in heritage environments, evidencing its potential as a tool for the sustainable management of tourism in historic cities.
The project focused on quantitative analysis of visitor flows around landmark buildings, using moving image sensors to detect pedestrians without storing images. Witeklab’s CPF-SENSOR (model WTK10070) was selected for this purpose, a smart camera capable of distinguishing persons in motion and performing a real-time count of the flow of visitors in a given area. The use of Witeklab’s sensors made it possible to identify behavioural patterns and detect peaks of affluence in heritage environments, demonstrating its potential as a tool for sustainable tourism management in historic cities.
The UPV Research Awards recognise the R&D activity, dissemination and knowledge transfer of UPV research staff. In its third edition, 30 awards were presented to different UPV scientists and two special recognitions to professors of the institution.
